OUR RESEARCH
How can we better understand and treat brain conditions?
We study the human brain to understand the cellular and molecular biology of mental illness, neurological disorders and stress. Through human tissue research, spatial biology and single-cell sequencing approaches, and clinical collaboration, we aim to enable human-first drug discovery and better treatments.
INTERNATIONAL NETWORK
NeSTED
NeSTED is an international research network working to understand the effects of stress and trauma during critical developmental periods, bringing together complementary preclinical, clinical and epidemiological research.
Human brain cellular architecture
We use donated postmortem and ex vivo human brain specimens to investigate differences in the shapes, numbers, orientation and connections of brain cells in psychiatric disorders and following stress exposure.

Single-cell & spatial biology
Cutting-edge single-cell, molecular and spatial profiling approaches allow us to resolve biological changes at the level of individual cell types and brain regions.
Stress across the lifespan
We examine the biological consequences of childhood adversity, adult stress and trauma, including how stress-related effects may persist across generations.
Psychiatric disorders
By identifying cellular and molecular signatures associated with mental illness, we aim to provide foundational knowledge for more precise treatments and interventions.
Clinical collaboration
We work with clinical populations and international collaborators, including research examining stress in refugees and the NeSTED network focused on stress and trauma during critical developmental periods.
